Project VP21I094

The Caleyda biopolymer (natural)(plastic alternative) is produced inside bacteria. The bacteria use public or industrial wastewater to grow. This bacterial biomass is harvested and dried. The next step in obtaining Caleyda is extraction from the biomass followed by purification. Paques Biomaterials is working on the conceptual design of a Caleyda Extraction Facility (CEF). This installation is meant to verify the design of a full-scale extraction facility.

The conceptual design phase is supported by a subsidy from SNN in the European Union’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Within this project several parties collaborate to bring together sufficient expertise for a successful design and evaluation.
