Solinatra and Paques Biomaterials partner to advance biopolymer compounding for sustainable Single-Use Plastic applications

Solinatra Europe B.V. and Paques Biomaterials B.V. will sign a Joint Development Plan and Conditional Offtake Agreement to jointly develop and commercialise next-generation, fully biodegradable materials as an alternative to fossil-based single-use plastics.

The collaboration brings together Solinatra’s expertise in compounding and bringing sustainable materials to market with Paques Biomaterials’ proprietary technology for producing PHBV biopolymers from residual organic waste streams. Under the agreement, Paques Biomaterials will supply PHBV biopolymers for use in Solinatra’s material portfolio, following a phased joint development programme from lab validation through industrial pilots.

Shorten time-to-market for high-performance natural alternatives to conventional plastics

By aligning material development, certification, and scale-up from the outset, the partnership is designed to shorten time-to-market for high-performance natural alternatives to conventional plastics significantly. The collaboration also supports rapid scaling to commercial volumes, enabling brand owners and converters to switch away from fossil-based single-use plastics sooner and at a meaningful scale.
Subject to successful development and certification, Solinatra intends to source significant commercial volumes of PHBV from Paques Biomaterials, providing a clear pathway to long-term offtake as production capacity comes online.

“This cooperation is a concrete step towards making sustainable materials commercially viable more quickly,” said Robert I. de Jong, Managing Director of Solinatra. “By working closely with Paques Biomaterials from development through industrialisation, we can accelerate market adoption and help customers move away from fossil-based plastics without compromise.”

René Rozendal, Managing Director of Paques Biomaterials, added: “Partnering with Solinatra enables us to translate our PHBV technology into real-world applications more quickly. Together, we aim to bring circular, biodegradable materials to market at scale and accelerate the transition to a sustainable plastics economy.”

The parties anticipate initial material validation in 2026, followed by semi-industrial and industrial pilots, with commercial supply expected from 2028.
