Application Development Specialist Biopolymer
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Application Development Specialist Biopolymers who combines a strong technical background in polymer science with a genuine passion for application development, technical problem-solving, and helping customers succeed with our biopolymers.
Location: Mainly Delft, on a monthly basis in Balk and sometimes also in Emmen.
Availability: as soon as possible
Travel: Comfortable with 40-60% travel across Europe
Work Authorisation: EU citizenship/permanent residence
Your role
As Application Development Specialist Biopolymers, you will lead the technical development of PHA-based applications, with a primary focus on Controlled Release Fertilizer (CRF) coatings and Barrier Coatings.
You will be responsible for developing formulations, conducting trials, supporting customers in application testing, and helping bring innovative sustainable solutions to market. The role combines scientific expertise, hands-on experimentation, customer interaction, and business development support.
What You Will Do
- Lead the development of PHA-based biopolymer applications from concept through customer implementation.
- Design, execute, and evaluate laboratory and pilot-scale formulation and application trials.
- Support customers in assessing and implementing biopolymer solutions for their specific applications.
- Guide projects from initial laboratory testing to pilot and commercial-scale validation.
- Conduct technical market research, competitive benchmarking, and application assessments.
- Identify and help develop new opportunities within the Controlled Release Fertilizer and Barrier Coatings markets.
- Build strong relationships with compounders, converters, brand owners, and end users.
- Prepare technical reports, application studies, and customer presentations.
- Represent Paques Biomaterials at customer meetings, industry conferences, trade fairs, and networking events.Maintain accurate project documentation and CRM records.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in Application Development, QA/QC, Production, Sales, and Marketing.

Your background
- MSc degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in (bio)polymer application development.
- Experience with dispersion coatings and/or applications such as Controlled Release Fertilizers (CRF), barrier coatings, adhesives, or membranes.
- Strong understanding of polymer materials, formulation development, and processing technologies.
- Affinity with sustainable materials, bio-based innovations, and circular economy solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and organizational capabilities.
- Comfortable interacting directly with customers and identifying new technical opportunities.
- Fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch, German, French, Spanish, or Italian is a plus.
- Based in the Netherlands.
