Chief Financial Officer (full-time)

Summary of the position we offer you
The CFO of PAQUES Biomaterials will play a pivotal role in guiding the company’s financial strategy to secure its current and future growth. He/she is part of the executive team and will lead financial planning, fundraising efforts, and ensure the organization’s fiscal health. This role is instrumental in financially guiding the initial investment of €10+ million for immediate expansion and leading & securing (being part of the fundraising process) the financial roadmap towards attracting a large investment (€60+ million) for building a production plant in the next two years. The CFO will be responsible for providing financial leadership and guidance to ensure all activities are executed within budget and on schedule. The CFO will manage financial operations, maintain strong investor relationships, and provide regular updates during weekly meetings regarding project timelines, budgets, and financial performance.

Qualifications & Experiences you bring with you

  • MBA or Master’s in Finance/Accounting
  • Registered Controller (RC) or equivalent professional certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in startups/scaleups/scaleups or the sustainability sector.
  • Successful track record in fundraising, securing investments, and financial management.
  • Experience guiding organizations through growth phases, including expansions and capacity building.
  • Familiarity with sustainable finance practices and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) considerations.
  • Background in bioplastics, the biobased economy, or related industries is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to and from offices in the Netherlands (headquarters is in Balk). 50% remote working is possible.

Roles & Responsibility

  1. FINANCIAL STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT & EXECUTION
  • Formulate and implement financial strategies aligned with the startup’s sustainability goals and overall growth objectives.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of market trends, competitive landscape, and industry dynamics to inform financial decision-making as part of the Executive Team.
  1. FUNDRAISING
  • Safeguard the initial investment of €10+ million for immediate expansion.
  • Jointly develop comprehensive fundraising plans, including investor targeting, pitch preparation and negotiations.
  • Act as the liaison between the company and potential investors, ensuring effective communication of the company’s financial vision and potential return on investment.
  1. FINANCIAL MODELLING
  • Develop and maintain robust financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Provide accurate financial projections that reflect various investment scenarios and expansion plans.
  • Utilize financial models to assess the financial feasibility of the proposed bio-plastics production plant in preparation for the estimated €60 million investment.
  1. INVESTOR RELATIONS
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current investors while actively seeking new investment opportunities.
  • Effectively communicate financial performance, key metrics, and strategic plans to investors.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and reporting standards.
  1. FINANCE OPS.
  • Develop, implement and execute financial (IT) systems and financial management system procedures for aspects like: Insurances; Bank relations; Hourly registration; Bookkeeping; Declarations; Invoicing; Billing;
  1. RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Identify potential financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Develop risk management protocols to safeguard the company’s financial interests during periods of growth and expansion.
  • Stay informed about changes in the financial and regulatory landscape that may impact the organization.
  1. COLLABORATION
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, marketing, and research and development, to provide financial guidance and support.
  • Collaborate with department heads to align financial goals with overall company objectives.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions to contribute financial insights and ensure financial considerations are integrated into decision-making.
  1. REPORTING
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide regular updates to the other executive team members and board of directors on financial performance, key financial metrics, and progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Present financial reports and insights in a clear and accessible manner to non-financial stakeholders.
  1. LONG-TERM PLANNING
  • Contribute to the development of the company’s long-term vision, especially regarding the future €60 million investment for building a production plant.
  • Provide financial input into strategic planning initiatives, including market expansion, product development, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to ensure that financial considerations are integrated into long-term business planning.
