Nature's solution to plastic pollution

Paques Biomaterials uses organic side streams to create a biobased and biodegradable alternative to plastic: Caleyda®

Producing PHA from side streams

We developed a technology for microbes to produce a biopolymer (PHA) from organic residual streams.  PHA can be produced by bacteria in industrial wastewater, sewage sludge and solid organic side streams, such as food waste. Our technology doesn’t modify bacteria genetically and we use no fossil resources. The first full-scale plants are already under development on three different continents. This is the start of a global, new circular chain to produce a biopolymer that is naturally biodegradable in all environments without leaving harmful microplastics behind.

With Caleyda® we provide a solution to microplastics

We produce Caleyda®, a naturally biodegradable biopolymer.

Caleyda ® stands out to other biopolymers, because:

  • it doesn’t leave harmful microplastic behind
  • it doesn’t compete with food/feed production
  • it’s locally sourced and produced
  • it has tunable properties
  • it has a wide range of properties

A Circular Natural & Valuable solution!

Circular

We use wastewater and organic waste rich in organics for PHA production.

Natural

To produce PHA, we grow natural microbes that produce and accumulate PHA.

Valuable

Bacterial biomass full of PHA represents a valuable source of income.
